FAQ (Question and answers)
Ballroom dancing is a partnership dance where couples, using step patterns, move rhythmically, expressing the characteristics of music. Ballroom dancing consists of two styles: the Smooth, or Standard, and the Rhythm, or Latin. The Smooth, Standard style focuses on the elegance, grace and fluidity of your dance moves
The only absolute prerequisite is that your shoes be clean (bring an extra pair if getting to the studio involves rain, snow, or mud), with no cleats or metal that could damage the hardwood floors. Shoes with flat soles and suede leather can turn and slide across the floor more comfortably than shoes with treads and rubber soles. For ladies, a low heel - no more than 2 inches - helps to distribute the weight onto the balls of your feet, which also aids in balance and turning.
Ballroom dance instructors in the UK often hold professional qualifications from recognised dance awarding organisations like the Initial Dance Teacher Qualifications or the International Dance Teachers' Association (IDTA), with courses like the Level 4 Diploma in Dance Teaching.
